Hamilton

Hamilton

Afternoon tea at four and the local passion for cricket are just two signs of Britains influence on this island of pink beaches and gingerbread houses. Browse in the shops on Front Street and absorb the local color - the relaxed, amiable mood is contagious.

Attractions

Perhaps the best way to see Bermuda's more than 350 islands is on a traditional-style sailing boat. Spend half a day sailing the incredibly clear, turquoise waters of Bermuda. You'll anchor during your sail, so that you can swim or just soak up a bit of island sunshine to take home with you.

Activities

  • Mountain-bike the Bermuda Railway Trail. The original narrow-gauge Bermuda Railway is long gone. However, the trail remains, and offers some of the island's most spectacular views, with stunning seascapes, lush gardens, and exotic flora and fauna.

  • Explore the city of Hamilton on a scenic trolley tour.

  • Take an evening Champagne Cruise aboard a 56-foot catamaran.

  • Discover the magical world of the ocean bottom, even if you can't swim, bell-diving the blue waters of Bermuda.

  • Take a glass-bottom-boat safari and see fascinating coral reefs and fish in the crystal-blue waters.

  • Explore the Royal Navy Dockyard and King's Wharf, an impressive military fortress built in the 1800's, which now houses various shops and museums.

Adventures

Golf on some of the finest courses in Bermuda, a country with more courses per square mile than any other place in the world.

Shopping

Many British goods are more affordable in Bermuda than in the United States because of Bermuda's special arrangement with Great Britain. Frequent visitors stock up on porcelain, crystal, silverware, jewelry, timepieces and perfume. Bermuda's selection of antiques and collectibles is extraordinary, with antique engravings and handmade pottery and crafts. The island also offers fine-quality tableware and crystal.

Currency

The Bermuda dollar (BMD) is the official currency. It is on par with the U.S. dollar. U.S. dollars, traveler's checks and credit cards are widely accepted.
